Hi there!
I’m here to talk about our second week of residency. It was a slow one—everybody got sick except for me. You know, I’m the only one eating my vegetables…
Although everyone was feeling very weak and Alicia had to be absent for two days, we had a goal: to show something at the 30th birthday of the Kulturfabrik.
The previous week we mostly researched wallpaper, but this weekwe wanted to explore possible art formats and play around with the material.

We decided to create an installation composed of three sections: 1. An interactive style-transfer video, where by using a camera input, the audience could see themselves acquiring different shapes while various kinds of wallpapers were generated behind. We also used their movements to generate part of the music.

2. A more narrative and contemplative piece, where rooms were being generated, accompanied by text that Alicia, Robin, and Joern worked on together, which was later recorded by Wilson T. Smith.

3. Some sort of sculpture, where the audience could peel/destroy several layers of a small wall. The end result is some painting?
This week, we also had to work more independently on specific tasks. Robin was finishing the generative video part of our installation, Joern is still working on a website where people can take or upload pictures and generate wallpaper patterns from them, and Alicia and Robin made some progress on a video game that we plan to use to archive things we find interesting—thoughts, ideas, and knowledge acquired during this residency.

My main focus this week was creating music for our installation, both the fixed and generative parts of it. Robin and I were also in charge of applying as many layers of wallpaper as possible to our piece of the wall.

The installation itself turned out to be a good excuse to talk to people. I guess the parts that worked were the ones where the audience was able to interact, namely the first section of the video and the piece of wall.

Thankfully, everyone recovered in time for the “performance,” which made everything easier, and we had fun most of the time!
I guess I can speak for everybody in the group when I say that we are excited for the next week to come.
And I would like to add that Augsburg is a lovely city, I’m loving it! Well, thank you for reading, more to come next week.
