earth beings: footwork as practice of dialogue

Levantando polvo/ از حافظه is an artistic research in which we explore the relation between body and territory through the lens of regional dances and music. By weaving together memory with gathered archives, we create an in-between world that merges distinct yet interconnected geographies. Drawing from regional dances in Bolivia and Iran, the project focuses on footwork-based practices as a form of dialogue with the land, where dance means resistance and resilience.
During the fourweek scholarship, we will research traditional dances such as Tinku in Macha Bolivia and Halparke in Kurdistan, Iran, investigating their historical and political contexts and their connection to the territory. A central component of our research is the experimentation with placing two dance and music archives in dialogue with one another, allowing them to interact and generate new narratives. We seek to explore how our footwork practice can merge with our archives of music, text, images, and video, expanding into digital and virtual realms — a blended digital landscape that critically interweaves our memories with the histories of these places.
